Edition of Operation Red Nose for North
and West Vancouver: |
|
What
is it?:
Operation Red Nose is a designated driver
program, run by volunteers during the month of December. The Red Nose
Volunteers are screened by police (CPIC check and Driver's Record)
to ensure the safety of the participants. The program is free for
users, though donations are welcome. It's a program for those who
plan their activities ahead of time.
|
When
is it?:
December 1, 7, 8, 14, 15, 21, 22, 28, 29, 2001, Friday & Saturday
nights: 2100hrs - 0300hrs.
|
Where
is it?:
Throughout North Vancouver. For more information contact 604-619-0942
|
How
can you help? :
-
Join the hundreds of volunteers who participate in the program. You
could be a driver, a navigator driver of the escort vehicle or work
in the headquarter in the hospitality or call taking area.
-
Use the service if you can or need to, you will find it's a lot of
fun, and you will meet some great people who will take good care of
you and your car.
-
If you have connections in the corporate world, Tax deductible Corporate
Donations are what keeps the program alive. Private donations are
also tax deductible.

Additional
Info:
ICBC
covers both the clients and the volunteers who use their own cars
to drive from call to call. So liability is not an issue. All volunteers
have cell phones sponsored by TELUS. PetroCanada sponsors the gas.
Other hospitality incentives for volunteers include: refreshments,
food. The headquarters for North/West Vancouver is the Capilano Claims
Center at the foot of Lloyd Ave.
The volunteers are not competing with local taxi companies. They are
a driving alternative to the concern of impaired driving, as well
as, an alternative for those who find themselves too tired to drive
at the end of the evening, or who are uncomfortable driving in bad
weather conditions.
For those of you who are newcomers to the North Shore, here is a real
opportunity to see a more pleasant side and even use the concept as
a "community project" for your cadet program.
The program does not go into or pick up from Vancouver.
